If you haven’t gotten a car wash lately, now is the time to do it. The weather is warming up, snow is melting, and Silverstar has a new location open in southeast Sioux Falls.

Silverstar has a commitment to giving back to local nonprofits, and so when it’s new store at East 57th Street and Graystone Avenue opened earlier this month, the company reached out to Special Olympics of South Dakota.

Why it matters:

During its first week in business, Silverstar offered car washes for a freewill donation to Special Olympics South Dakota.

In total, they raised over $1,100 for the nonprofit, which helps people with intellectual disabilities participate in both individual and team sports.

What people are saying:

“When you get a phone call like that, its just wonderful,” Special Olympics President and CEO Darryl Nordquist said about Silverstar reaching out about the donation. “Of course, I’d say, thank you for thinking of us.”

“Our team members just really enjoy that they’re able to be a part of giving back to the community,” said Andrea Vetos, regional manager with Silverstar.

What will the money be used for?

The funds raised will help support Special Olympics of South Dakota’s Unified Champion Schools program, an effort that brings youth with and without intellectual disabilities together in various sports. They also have a similar program for adults.

Any additional funds will go toward the “Spread the Word” campaignpromoting inclusion and a pledge to end use of the r-word.
