Dozens of new businesses expected in 2022 in the Fargo-Moorhead area
While 2021 saw over 15 businesses in the Fargo-Moorhead area permanently close their doors , many new establishments are aiming to take their place in 2022.
Customers in the Fargo-Moorhead area will have an abundance of new restaurants to try, though there are plenty of other new businesses to anticipate, including a new entertainment complex in south Fargo, several car washes and new stores.

Silverstar Car Wash
Sioux Falls-based Silverstar Car Wash will bring a trio of new car washes to the area in 2022.
The first, located at 4475 Calico Dr. S. in Fargo, is nearly completed and expected to open in March, the company’s website said . A second will follow in May at 2900 52nd Ave. S. in Fargo, while the third location will open at 2120 Sheyenne St. in West Fargo in July.
The new car washes will only be the first splash for Silverstar in the metro area. Co-owner Bryan Slama told InForum in August that he anticipates bringing several more to the area.

Dakota Commerce Center
Another mega construction project will be joining the Amazon Fulfillment Center in north Fargo.
Weighing in at 633,200-square-feet, the Dakota Commerce Center is set to serve as a warehousing and distribution hub to complement the Amazon facility that’s just a stone’s throw north.
Total costs are $53 million for the complex, which is being built by Hyde Development. In August, the company’s co-founder Paul Hyde projected the first of the facility’s four buildings would open in January, with a second following in the fall. If all goes well, the third and fourth buildings would open in 2023 and 2024.
Timber Creek LIVE entertainment center
South Fargo will be getting a major new entertainment center early in 2022.
The Timber Creek LIVE district will boast two new recreational activities for F-M area residents, Suite Shots and Kingpinz.
Inspired by Topgolf, Suite Shots is a golf entertainment facility that will offer a golf academy, indoor simulators, and banquet space in addition to 60 climate-controlled bays.
Kingpinz, which a recent press release described as “the ultimate reinvention of bowling and family entertainment,” will feature 20 lanes of bowling, two-story laser tag, escape rooms, charitable gaming and 50 arcade games.
Baron’s, a full-service American style bar and restaurant, will also open on the site.
According to its website , Kingpinz is slated to open Tuesday, Jan. 18. Suite Shots is expected to open in the first quarter of the year.
Asian & American Market
The Asian & American Market, currently located at 1015 Main Ave. in Fargo, is expected to move to a new location just a few blocks west.
City permit records indicate plans for the $1.8 million, 19,500-square-foot grocery store will include a parking lot and new loading dock.
In May, owner John Huynh declined to comment on the project, telling InForum that there were elements of the project still to be finalized. While the permit for the store has still not been issued, foundation work at the site is ongoing.
Local restaurateur Juan Perez is hoping to open Mas Tequila, located near The Lights in West Fargo, in the coming months.
The bar and restaurant will offer limited food service, though the focal point will be a broad selection of tequila, Perez told InForum in December 2020 .
Perez had hoped to open this past June, though the opening was delayed.
Perez is also working on a second project, bringing another Plaza Azteca location to Fargo.
The second Plaza Azteca will be located at 5081 Charles Way S. in the Timber Creek LIVE development. Costs are estimated at $1.435 million for the 4,434-square-foot restaurant.
Perez hopes to fill a hole for sit-down restaurants in the neighborhood. “There’s no restaurants (on 52nd Avenue South). I think a sit-down restaurant is good for that area,” Perez told InForum Friday, Nov. 5.
The new location will look a lot like the city’s first Plaza Azteca, Perez said, but it’ll be slimmed down and feature a more upscale menu.

A food truck that has been a fixture of the Red River Market is putting it in park and opening a small restaurant in downtown Fargo.
Casa Delicia owner Marcel Sanchez told InForum he plans to open the new restaurant in the alley behind Sushi Burrito at 623 Northern Pacific Ave. He had hoped to open in October to mark Casa Delicia’s one-year anniversary, though the project has been delayed. A building permit for the restaurant was issued Tuesday, Dec. 7.

Randy’s Diner, a staple along University Drive S. in Fargo, is opening a second diner near The Lights in West Fargo .
Owner Heidi Roggenkamp told InForum in May that she felt Randy’s Diner would fill a gastronomic need in West Fargo. “I think it’s needed. There are a lot of great places to eat in West Fargo,” she said. “A lot of them are bars, so I think having another option where it’s family-friendly and with all the churches over there, there’s not a lot of options on Sunday. Overall, it’s going to be a nice addition.”
She had initially hoped to open in time for New Year’s though the construction has been pushed back.

Oasis Restaurant and Bar
After sitting vacant for over a year-and-a-half, the future of the former BLVD Pub at 3147 Bluestem Drive in West Fargo has been revealed.
Oasis Restaurant and Bar, an upscale seafood and steak restaurant, is scheduled to open in the building soon. Owner John Weng had hoped to open sometime in December, though the restaurant is still under development.
Signs for Oasis have been hung and the owners are now hoping to open in mid- to late-January.

Ninja Ramen Noodle
Weng is also planning to open another new restaurant along Veterans Blvd. in West Fargo.
Ninja Ramen Noodle will be replacing the former Ice Point Weng owned at 816 24th Ave. E. He opted to close Ice Point due to the short summer ice cream season.
Weng’s new sit-down ramen restaurant was originally expected to open in November, though Weng now estimated it will open in mid-February.
In addition to Oasis Restaurant and Bar and Ninja Ramen Noodle, Weng and his partners also own the two Izumi locations in Fargo.

Even though Duane’s House of Pizza closed its Moorhead location, their pizza will still be served at 2223 Highway 10 E.
That’s because a group is planning to open Midtown Tavern at the location and one of the menu items will be Duane’s pizza. Midtown Tavern will also add more space, growing to over 6,000-square-feet.
The sports bar and restaurant will be split in two halves, with one side for family dining and the other for a bar. The menu will include burgers, cheesesteaks, macaroni and cheese, eggrolls and more.

Tati’s Mediterranean Saveur
Opening Tati’s Mediterranean Saveur will fulfill a lifelong dream for co-owner Tatiana Samaha.
Samaha’s brother, local gastroenterologist Dr. Fadel Nammour, convinced Samaha to move from Delaware to Fargo to open the restaurant.
Tati’s will focus on Mediterranean flavors and authentic Lebanese cuisine. The restaurant, located at 3150 Sheyenne St. in West Fargo, is expected to open in February according to its website.
Sickies Garage will bring a second location to the former home of Old Chicago at 2551 45th St. S.
The Fargo City Commission voted 5-0 Monday, Aug. 23, to grant a liquor license for the location, which will be Sickies’s eighth nationally.
An opening date for the new Sickies Garage is unknown.

A third Chipotle Mexican Grill is coming to Fargo, with its opening date fast-approaching.
The third Chipotle, located near Family Fare at 3061 25th St. S., is scheduled to open in February and will feature a Chipotlane for drive-through order pick-ups, a spokesperson for the company told InForum Tuesday, Dec. 28.
Plans for the new location were revealed in June. The February opening date is on target with original estimates, which put the opening date in the first quarter of 2022.

Mickey Roo Maternity
Supply chain disruptions have pushed back the opening date for Mickey Roo Maternity, a new store for babies and mothers opening in south Fargo.
Owner McKenzie Kjos had originally hoped to open the store by the end of the year . Kjos also owns Tootsie’s Children’s Boutique and Kenzie + Co. Kids Boutique.
Despite the delay, Kjos and her mother Janell ran a holiday pop-up throughout December. The two hope to have the store fully stocked and ready to open by the spring.

Dakota Nation Sportsbook lounge
Sports fans in the Red River Valley have a new option for betting on their favorite sports and teams. Soon, they’ll have a new option to watch the games as well.
Dakota Nation Sportsbook began taking bets at kiosks in December, but the sportsbook based out of Dakota Magic Casino in Hankinson also plans to open a lounge for watching sports.
The “Vegas-style” lounge will feature large televisions, leather seats with cell phone charging stations, a limited menu, drinks and a “massive” wall-to-wall video screen , the casino’s chief marketing officer Rojelio Rubio told InForum in November.
The lounge is expected to open in time for the Super Bowl.

Custom Express Car Wash
Custom Express Car Wash, which already boasts three locations in Fargo and Moorhead, will open a second Moorhead wash in the new year.
Custom Express owner Jason Gehrig told InForum he wanted to play a part in bringing more businesses to Moorhead. “Being a graduate from Moorhead High, I wanted to bring business back to Moorhead if possible,” he said. “Everybody’s trying to go to Fargo, but you can’t forget about Moorhead.”
Gehrig also foresees more car washes in the metro area, though he added his primary focus is on opening the fourth location.

Dakota Barber College
Former Concordia wrestler Delson Saintal will open Dakota Barber College Monday, Jan. 17.
The renovated replacement for the former VIP Room at 624 Main Ave. in Fargo is targeting a Saturday, Jan. 22 opening date, manager Ellen Wall told InForum.
A Border Bank will replace the former Bank of the West at 3203 32nd Ave. S. in the first quarter of the year.
Hebron Brick is building a $5 million center for its F-M operations in West Fargo , hoping to complete construction in April.
The new franchise that sports chicken tenders, wings, sandwiches, salads, wraps, chicken and waffles, and house-made dipping sauces had been expected to open in late fall .
Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers
Remodeling is underway at 2653 45th St. S., with the restaurant expected to open in the second quarter.
A third Starbucks location for Moorhead was revealed in September and is under construction in the EasTen Shopping Center.
A Domino’s is expected to move into downtown Moorhead’s Vanné building .
A new year-round Dairy Queen in Dilworth is reported to open in February or March .
Tidal Wave Auto Spa
The Thomaston, Ga.-based car wash chain is constructing a Fargo location at 4207 13th Ave. S. , the former site of the Kelly Inn.
She Said Butcher Shop
While owner Melissa Evans offered prime rib and surf and turf specials for Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the butcher shop at 2103 5th Ave. N. , in Moorhead will not be fully open for business until Monday, Jan. 3.
